At Valor we believe in the power of relationships and we want you to get to know who is behind Valor. Even if you don’t work directly with these individuals, you will feel their impact. If you have a residential HVAC need, our Service Operations Manager is the one that will work to make sure you have the right solution. Let us introduce you to Joe West…
What made Valor Mechanical the right career move for you?
The opportunity to work side by side with my father and brother-in-law was a no brainer honestly. After 20+ years working in the field in various area of the trades, it was time to give my body a rest and make the transition into the office life. I spent most of my career on the service side of the business, so learning the commercial construction side has been quite fun and rewarding.
What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?
I love to spend as much time as I can on the golf course during the summer. I also really enjoy spending time with friends and family. I especially love spending time with my niece and nephews. My wife and I travel as much as we can. Competing in poker tournaments is one of my biggest passions in life. I plan to make my second trip to the World Series of Poker in June.
Do you own any pets?
Humans are outnumbered in our house. Our two bird dogs (wirehaired griffons) Puckett and Walter keep us on our toes while our 2 cats Mitzi Mae and Marvin Grey keep the dogs in check. It’s often chaotic when they all start chasing each other around the house but we love it!
Favorite place that you have traveled to and why?
Hands down Italy. If you’ve been there, you understand. The food, history, culture, and the sites to see are unbelievable. To see the Rome Colosseum, Michelangelo’s David, and Venice Canals in person was a life changing experience.
Did you play any sports in High School or College?
I’ve been a sports nut for as long as I can remember. And baseball was my first true love. Playing traveling baseball as a kid and competing in tournaments are very fond memories from growing up. I was fortunate enough to play with a special group of guys that did very well over the years. If you didn’t find me at the ballpark, you were likely to find me playing a pick-up game of another sport.
Your go to restaurant when you don’t want to cook at home and why?
This is a tough one… Rochester has sooooo many great options. Wildwood has always been a regular spot for us. The owner/chef Jim Nicholas knows what he is doing! Amazing comfort food and they have the best chicken wings in town, I highly recommend the boneless Thai Chili wings! First Meeting Noodles is new to town but is quickly becoming a favorite also!
